Books.

This tag came from Amrit. Its to list 15 books. The first 15 that strike you in 15 minutes. (And I see no reason in delaying tags just because everyone else does.)

1. The Kite Runner: This one holds a special place in my heart. Deep down. I laugh and I cry with it. Every time. My favorite line is this one: “True redemption is when guilt leads to good.”  So beautifully true.

2. Eleven Minutes: Enlightening. Totally!

3. The Namesake: Jhumpa Lahiri’s works are so human. If you know what I mean.

4. The Last Year of Being Single: by Sarah Tucker. Hillarious. One of my fav chick-reading. My copy is lost. By some Hero’s friend. Not mine, just his. And I can’t find it in any store. Anyone who gifts me this one gets a kiss. Hero, run fast!

5. P.S. I love you: Just too cute. Made me tear.  :(
P.S. Do not watch the movie. Dumb to the core!

6. Love Story: Made me weep. Every girl’s favorite, I know. Just can’t help it. And I love Oliver’s story too, the last line in it.

7. Princess: My first non-fiction read. This book taught me that reading does not have to be interesting, it cannot be fun all the time. It can be dull, gloomy, depressing. But when you know what you are reading is real, you care little for everything else.

8. The Alchemist: I hate the winds talking part. I am not that advanced on the philosophy front to digest that bit. But I love the idea of chasing your dreams, following omens. The book makes me believe.

9. The Zahir: I like it more than number 8 and less than number 2. It worked for me.

10. Angels & Demons: Exceptionally gripping. The only let-down is that its fictional :) This one was gifted with a note: To my darling Angel, from a Demon. (who else?)

11. Many Lives, Many Masters: I love the idea of life after death. Of the soul. And soulmates.

12.  Sister of my heart: speaks of the sisterly-love. In a way that makes me feel so blessed for having a sister.

13. The Innocent Man: by John Grisham. His first non-fiction work. The subject here is Ron Williamson, a young athlete who was accused of rape and murder and sent on a death row, only to freed a decade later. Why? Because he was innocent.

14.Unaccustomed Earth: Intelligent and beautiful writing. Beautiful, like the author. Intelligent too like her, I’m sure.

15. Windmills of the Gods: Yeah, I was a Sidney Sheldon fan once upon a time. Long long ago. Then I grew up.

You like this tag? Pick it up. Just let me know :)

    Hey baby nicely done :-*

I love your fetish for books and the way you read them incrementally, devouring the ideas…and of course sharing info on all thats in the book with me :-)

Interesting, “Freedom at Midnight” does not feature in the list ?? :-D

A few things came to mind, abt the books in this post,

    1) you ought to thank Habbu sir for this one :-)
    2) I am waiting for the movie!! :-D
    5) How bout the person who lost this book gifting it back ? Kiss still holds ?? ;-)
    7) You got thrown out of class for reading this one!! :-)
I managed to finish reading entire Indian History in four years of college without a word from the professers and you got thrown out for reading Princess :-)
..) You missed five point someone…you had loved it..
..) Ban Jhumpas books! I wish she was a script writer instead:-)

Pavan:~ Freedom at Midnight?? I thought u’d not want to remind me of that. Of that and of A Thousand Splendid suns. and Making the Minister Smile. and Eleven Minutes. and The Namesake. and many more!!
Abt what came to ur mind:
      @1: Thanks, but no thanks.
      @2: Refer book numbered 5.
@5: No exceptions. Jus get my book back! :(
@7: Maybe thats why I dint take 4 yrs to complete it! :)

Five Point Someone: ur rite. I HAD loved it. faded away when I discovered otehr beauties.

Jhumpa Lahiri: refer point 3. Not the book, the line about it. :)

      • Pavan Says:

Hey your actually writing like a “writer”

Even you’ve started making the crap sound interesting :-)

  2. Amrit Says:

Hey thanks for doing this tag.

Will come back to comment…abhi there is loads of work. :)

    By the way…amazing list! :D

  3. Ms whimsies Says:

lovely!!! thank you.. I read only ‘highly’ recommended books :):)

  4. Ms whimsies Says:

btw, I have no idea why my name links to the myspace blog.. it was mine once upon a time, but I think something is buggy about wordpress :-?

  5. Rambler Says:

we have so many books in common..btw you are one of the very few people who have liked eleven minutes..would be fun to know more about books you like and what appeal to you in these books

  6. Miss M Says:

I have read at least 5 of the books you mentioned. Maybe I should look up the other five too. :)

First time commenting here, but have been reading your blog for some time now. Love your writing style. Will definitely come back for more. :)

  7. Rani Says:

    Amrit:~ Sure. come back :)

Ms. whimsies:~ Go ahead and grab them.
check wht link u have added to ur id. change it please, so that’s easy to go to ur blog instead of that abandoned space. Get help from the WP forums and do it.

Rambler:~ thanks for dropping by. I mostly love books I can relate to. In all those 15 books there is some part of me. (except of course angels & demons and Sidney Sheldon)
I love you book shelf too. U have read so much, how fun!

Miss M:~ Thanks so much. Do read the 5 u have missed :)

  8. Amrit Says:

I have read 8 books mentioned in your list! :)

Quite common taste when it comes to books. So naturally gotta pick other 7 soon.

I loved Zahir…I connected with the book. I picked up several para from the book and jotted down in my notebook. Worth a read!

I was amazed when I read “Many Lives Many Masters”..I mean it was real hard to believe about life after death..and that too the way Weiss postulated.

“The Last Year of Being SIngle”….well, the incentive is too fascinating :) . Your hero would ne already up and running. :)

    You dont like Jeff Archer?

    • Rani Says:

Never read Jeff Archer. Voluminous books are such a turn-off! That’s one thing thats keeping Shantaram away from me. :(

      • Amrit Says:

Hmmmm…Shantaram is the thickest book I ever read..but it was a good one.

If get a chance pick up “Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less” by Archer….its not so voluminious…and its real real good.

  9. Mangesh Says:

NIce collection… have read some… havent read many… but then i like mostly fiction… real life is not something i wud connect with.. not that i dont like to read them.. but i usually have a different view than the one portrayed.. and hence fiction is better.. lolz…
By the way… have u read other books of Dan Brown? Angels & Deamons / Da Vinci Code are more popular as they have been made into movies … but i feel that deception point is much better as compared to these 2… or for that matter digital fortress is a plunge into some different area than religion…
Presently i am reading Frontline Pakistan… by Zahid Hussain… a take on the Pakistani Politics… covers mostly how Parvez Musharraf rose to be the dictator.. was written b4 he stepped down… read it… its good.
